Starting a test is easy: simply press the backlit function button. The screen and optional sound cues guide you through the test. The Alcotest 4000 is ready for use in seconds, and the test can be performed immediately. Menu navigation is also done using the same single button.

The mouthpiece easily clicks into place and comes with a hygienic cover. Each test subject should use their own mouthpiece. The device includes three replaceable mouthpieces, with more available separately. Exhaled air flows through a dedicated channel, with only a small sample extracted for analysis. This design ensures no residual alcohol affects the results, keeping measurements accurate and consistent — the same principle used in police-grade breathalyzers.
